TiBE 2013 Yearly Theme: Joyful Reading

TiBE 2013 Guest of Honor: Belgium

The 2013 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) saw the participation of 737 publishers from 70 countries, 2,112 booths, 1,123 activities, and 508,000 visitors.

Some of the most remarkable achievements this year include the introduction of 12 Belgian publishers, accompanied by a delegation of 37 publishing professionals, for the Guest of Honor Belgian pavilion. The Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT) this year came with a delegation of 45. The TIBE theme country in 2009, Thailand has since turned from a copyright purchaser to seller. Other major participants included Japan with a delegation of 50 and Korea with around 30.

The number of copyright sessions more than doubled this year, growing from 203 to 438. The second Book Meets Film Forum also saw a remarkable increase in the number of one-on-one matchmaking meetings, growing from 132 last year to 250 this year. The first ever Simplified Chinese Book Pavilion exhibited approximately 50,000 titles, not only providing a window into the current status of China’s book market but also facilitating cross-strait exchange between the publishers. TiBE has indeed demonstrated its role as an essential platform for Chinese-language publications while expediting a wide range of international exchange and fulfilling the public need for reading.
